Yeah, for that reason I always follow up with a second ship if possible to quickly take it out.
I think now I've had sometime to play, I definitely like it over all, there's just too many personally irritating bugs and design choices and stuff which stop me from really liking it which although each is only small. The removal of various unit control buttons and making combat turn into lighting fast mob fights are my biggest annoyances, followed by the design of a really bad UI that feels like they set out to make it as awkward as possible to use use, especially tech, city and army/general management and the battle you AI as well (bar the strategy map thing, which is awesome.) Why they removed the old way of conveying city information I'm not sure, there was nothing wrong with it.
I'm also finding the soundtrack a little forgetable, all of them feel too passive and not memorable. I liked the camaign map soundtrack at first (For the Greeks and Romans, haven't tried barbarian factions yet, I assume they are different) but it feels like there's one song that feels a bit too quiet and there's no change of pace to break them up. Same with the battle soundtrack.
Just so it's not a complete hate post I am enjoying the over all game, especially the army system and naval combat and such. I'm particularly keen on the garrison system and province sytem.
