The Creative Assembly today released the Beta for the upcoming Patch 3 for Total War: Rome II. The patch features a number of different fixes and tweaks, with the speed and balancing of real-time battles once again receiving some attention. There are also some performance improvements and tweaks listed in the patch log for Patch 3.
If you are interested in trying the Beta for Patch 3 follow the instructions below:
"In your steam game library, right click Total War: Rome II. Then choose Properties and select the BETAS tab. Finally select "patch3beta" from the drop down list."
A comprehensive log of all the changes that feature in the Patch 3 Beta can be found on the Total War Wiki here.
This looks like quite the patch. The battle improvements look somewhat similar to what modders have been doing- we shall see.

Well I have an issue with the Beta. If I alt tab out of the game, when I return the screen is zoomed in to the top left corner and only restarting the game solves it. Also the save for my Co Op campaign had somehow been deleted...

The first issue is one they are aware of, and it is even mentioned in a disclaimer at the beginning of the patch notes. Should be fixed by the patch's official release as far as I know.
As for missing save games, that's odd and unfortunate. There was no mention of the patch being save game incompatible after all. I don't think it has been deleted, it is probably still in the save game folder. I do believe incompatible save games do not appear in the list however, from my experiences with Shogun 2.
Another hotfix has been released for the Patch 3 Beta:
Re-added the missing effects for the Monument of Leonidas building (part of Greek States DLC) in Campaign modes.
Fix to make sure the number of men correctly fit on ships in battle while using large unit sizes, to prevent them spawning outside the ship / in the sea.
Improvements to AI usage of forced march. Before Patch 3, attacking an army or navy in Forced March stance, would trigger a Victory Point battle, where nearby allies could join the battle as reinforcements. Now instead this triggers an Ambush battle, where nearby allies cannot join the battle as reinforcements. Therefore we have made changes to the Campaign AI to try not to stand in vulnerable position, and try to avoid enemy armies whilst in Force March stance. This will still happen in some circumstances, but the likelihood is reduced.
