[Draft v0.2] Of Aspis & Dory - The Light Hoplite
By Scipii

As swift as the God Apollo himself, no skirmishers shall outrun these fearsome Greek Hoplites. Born from a necessity to protect the hoplite phalanx from skirmishers, such as Peltasts, these hoplites have been adapted to carry lighter equipment. An extremely mobile soldier who can keep pace with lightly armed skirmishers and defeat them in combat.

Due to their lighter equipment these Hoplites should not be expected to fare well in combat against their more heavily equip kin. However, their mobility and speed of foot allows them to quickly re-position and flank the enemy lines. Whilst they might not be the most stalwart defenders, their mobility can be of use for flanking actions.

With their Rapid Advance ability these light hoplites can surprise unsuspecting skirmishers with a sudden burst of speed and acceleration. In spite of their role as light infantry these hoplites still know how to form a formidable Hoplite Phalanx. While the Light Hoplites may also form an immovable, yet un-flankable, Square if threatened on all flanks.

As trained soldiers, these light hoplites fight in formation much like their heavy kin. Whilst also disciplined enough to ignore the morale penalties which occur from the death of their General. It is this discipline which gives them a greater chance of reforming if their morale is broken by the enemy.

Thanks to their fleet footedness these light hoplites will endure fewer missile barrages from the skirmishers that they are closing in on to engage. Once the skirmishers are in flight the mobility of the light hoplite will not allow them to turnabout and unleash a volley of missile fire. Contrary to their heavier armed and armoured brethren who cannot maintain the same relentless pressure, both tiring sooner and receiving casualties while chasing.

Advantages
  • Can form Hoplite Phalanx
  • Can form Square
  • Fleet Footed
  • Disciplined
  • Counter Cavalry with Spears

    Disadvantages
  • Lightly armed and armoured
  • Inferior against Heavy Infantry
  • Can be disadvantaged against Swords

Nice summary. Perhaps add something in brackets to show the aspects of having spears that puts it into advantage and disadvantage (I assume melee penalty against infantry and a bonus against cavalry). Would it be worth showing some stats as an embedded table or an image?

Hmm, yes. I have amended the "Have Spears" advantage and disadvantage to be more precise. Though I believe their multiplayer and singleplayer stastics vary, in cost at least.

Still considering other thing to add.
