After the fun of our second Rome II forum party, the games return for a third time. As we gladiators fight to keep the people entertained, "Bread and Circuses" as they say. So it is with great pleasure that we hereby announce the Tertius Rome II Heaven forum games.
When: This forthcoming Saturday, the 21th of September, on Total War: Rome II. We have a nominal time of 12:00PM EST (5pm GMT+1), but some of us will be available earlier or later if you still want a game.

Where: In our Steam Group's group chat, where we found it easiest to organise games between everyone.

Either ask one of us to invite you, use that giant Enter Chat Room button located on the group page, or go to your Friends List switch to the Groups tab select the downwards arrow next to our name and select Join Group Chat from the pop-up list.

Why: To prove who is the greatest of them all. Or more purely, because playing games with your fellow community members is quite enjoyable.

Who: Feel free to invite others along to join in the fun, the more the merrier generally.

My two battles vs EOJ:
So, me and EOJ decided to play a 1v1 land battle. He chose the Macedonians and I picked the Parthians, opting for maneuverability over the static "Pike and Shot" formation I use in my campaigns as Athens and Sparta. The map was Yathrib, a desert map featuring a small hill at the north, where EOJ was stationed. My army consisted of 4 Mercenary Hoplites, 1 unit of Elephants, a cataphract general, a couple of foot archers and a couple of horse archers. Eoj's force was made up from Thorax Phalangitai, Thorax swordsmen, four units of archers and three Companion cavalry units.

At the beginning, I moved my army to EOJ's position, trying to lure his companions out with my horse archers. However, he utilised his archers to drive my mounted marksmen away, while at the same time trying to flank my slow-moving infantry which was marching up the smooth hill. So I sent my elephants to counter them and turned my attention towards Eoj's formation, looking for a weak point. That was my first mistake. While I impulsively tried to break through his weak left side with my entire cavalry, defended by two units of archers and a Companion cavalry unit, he sent another unit of archers to make my elephants run amok, which they did. The, while I was dealing with these beasts (by means of killing them), he made a powerful counterattack against my bogged down cavalry, using his Thorakitai and Companions. My cavalry routed, and then my weak infantry was sandwiched by EOJ's combined force. So, EOJ-Alex_the_Bold 1-0.

After this battle, we decided to play a naval battle, where we where both amateurs. EOJ chose the Athenians, while I opted for the Egyptians. Due to the limited funds, I picked two Octeres, an Hexeres, two Penteres, a catapult ship and a Hemiolia, while EOJ picked 5 Tower Penteres a Fire Pot Dieres and some lighter Trieres. Being a noob at naval warfare, I charged head-on, hoping to destroy his ships with my heavier ships. However, his more maneuverable ships swarmed my own and rammed them into submission. So, EOJ-Alex_the_Bold 2-0.
